Two deaths at opposite extremes. Kitty Wells and Jon Lord.
Kitty Wells was a true door opener in country music. While she didn’t write her songs, she was a terrific singer. Classic songs include “It wasn’t God who made honky-tonk angels” and “My cold, cold heart is melted now”.
Jon Lord, as the keyboard player, was the heart and soul of Deep Purple in all but its latest incarnation (in which his place was taken surprisingly well by Don Airey). Lord was also a successful solo musician, with a pleasant mix of rock and classical music.
Both were great talents and pioneers, and they’ll be missed.
